The debut studio album of American singer Billie Eilish.

This album was released on the 29th of March through
Darkroom and Interscope records.

This is a 14 second inroduction to the album by Billie and her brother.

Bad Guy

Bad guy is different to what Billie had done up to this point. It was more happy and bouncy most of the way through. Towards the end of the song the pace and mood changes to something much more familiar to Billie. 8/10

xanny

xanny is slow and steady with a consistent baseline . The song is separated by periods where the vocals become heavily distorted. 9/10

you should see me in a crown

This song was released before the rest of the album with its vertical video on spotify. At the time it was the darkest sounding song that Billie had released, with an edgy mood. 7/10

all the good girls go to hell

Billie uses multiple vocal effects to give her different voices, it sounds like there are multiple people singing the songs, although all of them are still clearly Billie. 8/10

wish you were gay

wish you were gay was released officialy at the start of the month that the new album came out in, however Billie had sang it 2 years ago on an instagram live. The use of sound effects such as the laugh track make it sound more light hearted, although it is obvious that she is upset. 9/10

when the party’s over

The music video for this song is incredible and goes really well with the mood set by this song. As with a lot of Billie’s music, the vocals are very breathy, it sounds like she is singing quite quietly. 9/10

8 is bar far my least favourite song on this album, in my opinion it is just so generic indie girl. The rest of the album has such an individual identity other than this song. I almost felt like I had heard this song before. 5/10

my strange addiction

This song uses clips from the office (us) as the beat reminded her of a song used in a specific episode. These clips break up the vocals. 8/10

bury a friend

bury a friend was used to sell the album, and it is obvious why, the tone set by this song is completely unique to this album. The themes reoccurring in the album can be found in this song, along with the title of the album “when we all fall asleep, where do we go?” being in the chorus. 8/10

ilomilo

This song starts the same way that bury a friend ends meaning when listening to the album in order they lead on perfectly. Although it starts the way that bury a friend ends, it quickly differentiates itself with a higher pitch and good lyrics. 10/10

listen before i go

listen before i go has, in my opinion, the best lyrics of any song in the entire album. It is about committing suicide with lines such as “Take me to the rooftop, I wanna see the world when I stop breathing”. Along with the impeccable lyrics the melody is great and matches the feeling of the lyrics. 9/10

i love you

I love how easy this song is to listen to, it is just so relaxing. Billie’s heavily breathy style of singing give this song a soothing feel along with its slow melody and fitting hook. However it is a little generic. 7/10

goodbye

This was a nice song to finish the album with as it references all of the songs in the lyrics, as a stand alone song, however, it isn’t as good as a lot of the other songs on the album. 6/10

CONCLUSION

This album overall was great, it exceeded my already high expectations of Billie with multiple incredible songs. I can honestly see it being in the top 3 albums of 2019. 9/10
